"I look at myself, I did not see me anymore..."

"At the twilight, a moon appeared in the sky;
Then it landed on earth to look at me.
Like a hawk stealing a bird at the time of prey;
That moon stole me and rushed back into the sky.
I looked at myself, I did not see me anymore;
For in that moon, my body turned as fine as soul.
The nine spheres disappeared in that moon;
The ship of my existence drowned in that sea..."

"Better by far you forget and smile
Than you should remember and be sad.."

Thank you, friends. Friends who somehow know I am up at 2:30am in need of sweet words.

Thank you to everyone who came out to the art show to support everyone this weekend.
It means the whole wide world.

"We're Rockin' this bitch..."

It's been a while since I have posted anything. Consider it a good sign that I have been busy doing a savage amount of fun shit. WHO GOES OUT THIS MUCH IN MARCH?

Notably, after 20 years of adoration, I finally got a chance to see one of my  faves, Sir Ben Folds.

And he improved.
Someone shouted out "Rock this bitch!"
And he did. THEY did.
The Edmonton Symphony Orchestra was astounding.
The entire show was one of the best I have ever seen. I am so glad that, even though not a huge fan of Folds, Greg was able to come and share that with me. It was also excellent to know that just a few rows closer to the stage sat Shawn with his brother. Everyone that should have been with me was. Including a sweet guy from Calgary that sat beside me having the absolute time of his life.

That being said, the ever lovely Lindsey Walker and I have a date to see Kathleen Edwards on Monday and I am simultaneously excited and relieved. Greg had me convinced that he left it too long and the tickets were sold out. I almost keyed his car.
I have never missed a show since the release of Failer and I am certainly not starting now. Greg waited just long enough before I started selling off his comics to pay some dude named Ned on Kijiji. Perhaps some decadent Steak Tartar at Accent before the show?

Man, my life can be beautiful.

You can always tell the birth of spring in Edmonton between the sifts of snow by the way people begin to talk to each other... in excited, anticipatory tones. So many music shows. Comedy. Art shows all over our lives. We can barely keep our calenders straight.
"Which art show is this? Who is hosting this?"
 As Greg has said, when it comes to much needed R & R, Monday/Tuesday is our weekend. Starting Wednesday evening, we don't stop. And it never seems to get old. We do surround ourselves with some amazing people.

It is hard not to be grateful.

Aside: The annual Pirate Party/CF fundraiser/ Greg birthday bash is being held at the Artery this year, May 20th, and some pretty excellent people have agreed to be a part of it.

Of course they have.

Love you too, Marko.

JUST: Just a Bunch of Photos of Influential Artists Doing Fascinating Things. No Biggie.

These are my faves, but to see the couch Freud used, or Marilyn Monroe on her 30th birthday, or Hemmingway kicking a can (it's awesome), go here:

AN ABRUPT END: James Huse Addresses Budget Cuts to the Arts in a Most Interesting Way.

The photo you see here is of a bursting rubber balloon filled with milk. It was only captured through the use of skills, equipment, facilities, training and tutorials made available through our university. It's both a celebration of all we have learned here and a visual representation of what can only be made possible through the use of university funding in all its available forms:

These secondary images were allowed none of the privileges offered by our university, and it shows. The recent budgets cuts to creative education industries can only jeopardise the future of such creative endeavours and rather than this balloon, it may be future students creative educations coming to an abrupt end:

Pride Day 2011 & Block Party.

My face still feels twice the size it's supposed to be, but I am heading down to the Pride Parade and 104th Street Block Party.  If you are in town, I suggest you do the same.  My number's on Facebook.  Text and we'll meet up. I'll be the one in the fabulous rainbow silk scarf...

Anamorphic Typography: "It's all a point of view."

London-based designer Joseph Egan did this incredible piece of anamorphic typography as part of his final project while studying at the Chelsea College of Art & Design.

PILE UP: An Art Show for People Who Like Art.

Poster Courtesy of Greg Tymofichuk.

One of Greg's best friends Nate is putting on an art show with music, painting, sketching, burlesque, fashion, film, and photography.  It will be wet and it will be wild.

Maybe not that wet. But wild.
And Whiskey-y... since Whiskey Wagon will be playing.

SEE YOU THERE.
